The trip to Orlando is always full of decisions. When planning a trip to Orlando one of the biggest questions is: Staying in a hotel, an apartment or a rented house? Staying at hotels inside the parks or outside them? Unfortunately the answer is much more complicated than a yes or no and depends on many factors. How many days in town, how many people in the group, budget, all this influences the decision.
During our last trip to Orlando, we stayed at Blue Heron Resort. The resort, which is actually an apartment with services , is a great option for those who go to Orlando with their family. There are two buildings in the complex. We checked in at the 24 hour reception, which also has a concierge counter with Expedia services and also Sea World for those who want to buy tickets at a discount.
There are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. All furnished with comfort and very large. One of the main reasons we decided to stay in an apartment this time was because my mother was with us and her mother-in-law was also going to join us, so instead of having to take two hotel rooms, an apartment made more sense. After several days on the road it’s a delight not having to squeeze into a hotel room.
The kind of apartment we stayed in was the Sunsrise Suite with 2 rooms. The living room divided between living and dining, has two sofas that also saw a sofa bed and a flat screen TV. The dining table for six seats and even a stereo.
The kitchen is open to the living room and has all the appliances needed for a trouble-free stay. Besides the electric stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher, it also has a coffee maker, blender, toaster and all the necessary utensils such as pots, plates, cutlery, glasses and even detergent and paper towel. There is also a washing machine and dryer, perfect for those who are taking a longer trip and need to wash clothes.
The rooms, although the decoration is a little old-fashioned for my taste, are quite comfortable. The double one has a king size bed, a huge closet to hang clothes and a sideboard with drawers where the small LCD TV is.
The bathroom is very spacious, with a double sink, Festiva Hospitality products and bathtub. The resort offers towels and toilet paper, but has no daily storage service.
The second room has two single beds, closet, TV and bathroom with a smaller bathtub.
There is also a bunk bed in a small, windowless room at the entrance of the apartment, perfect for older children.
Located in Lake Buena Vista with a view of Lake Bryan, the veranda is a wonder to relax in the late afternoon or even at night after the return of the parks.

Shuttles to the Parks – The hotel has shuttles service to Disney, Sea World and Universal.
Swimming Pools: The hotel has a heated swimming pool in winter for adults, a smaller pool for children and a Jacuzzi, plus another smaller pool. There is WiFi service around the pool.
Academy: On the ground floor, with few equipments. But don’t worry, in Orlando, you’ll work out a lot walking around the parks.
WiFi: The internet in the apartment is cable, not WiFi, but as we always carry our equipment, we just installed our router and voilá. There is WiFi in the pool.
In the Deluxe suite type apartment, there’s a balcony that comes out of the Master Bedroom that overlooks the West and you can watch the Disney fires.
Location: The hotel is super well located, very close to Downtown Disney, the Disney entrance is less than 1 mile (1.6 km), one of the main Premium Outlets less than 2 miles (3.2 km), Sea World is 4 miles (6.4 km) and Universal is 8 miles (12.8 km). There are supermarkets, pharmacies and many restaurants nearby.
Although we had to take care of the cleaning ourselves, we did some shopping at the supermarket and had breakfast and dinner usually at home and to stay many days, it was great, because each one had its own space. One day we ordered Chinese food (on arrival, we received several leaflets with menu from several restaurants that delivered to the place). The whole family approved the days in the apartment instead of a traditional hotel.
